NewJeans on stage at Lollapalooza: "I got goosebumps when we were singing together"
NewJeans, a new female idol group that performed at the mega music festival "Lollapalooza Chicago 2023" for the first time in the U.S. to rave reviews, shared their thoughts.
On July 7, NewJeans shared their impressions of performing on stage at Lollapalooza Chicago 2023 through their agency, ADORE. Just over a year after their debut, NewJeans became the first K-pop girl group to debut at Lollapalooza and attracted attention.
Minzy said, "We didn't know how many people would show up until just before we went on stage, but the moment we went on stage, we were excited to see so many people and binky bongs," while Haerin said, "The atmosphere in the venue was really hot. It gave me a good feeling of nerves and excitement, and it was a great experience."
Hani said, "It was like a dream. I got goosebumps when everyone was 'singing along' to our songs," and "It was my first festival experience that I will never forget because I felt so much energy throughout the whole performance." Hyein added, "We were very nervous before we started performing, but once we started, I think we focused on the exciting atmosphere of the venue. It was really nice to see people listening to our music and enjoying it together."
Daniel emphasized, "It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid to be on a big stage like Lollapalooza, and I was so happy to be on that stage. I will cherish all the emotions I felt at that time, such as emotion, gratitude, happiness, and excitement, and I will never forget it."
On the 3rd (local time), NewJeans performed on the Grant Park T-.Performing on the mobile stage, NUJINS sang a total of 12 songs, including "Hype boy," "Cookie," "Hurt," "Attention," "Ditto," "OMG," "New Jeans," "Super Shy," "ETA," "Cool With You," "Get Up," and "ASAP." The group also performed a number of other songs.
According to their agency, ADORE, there were about 70,000 people in attendance. Even though it was NUJINS' U.S. debut, the crowd sang along to NUJINS' songs. The Chicago Sun-Times, a local publication, reported that the crowd "may have been the largest (for a 5 p.m. show) ever."
NewJeans, who released their second mini-album "Get Up" on August 21, debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 main album chart (as of August 5). It is one year after their debut.
Minzy said, "I was really surprised when I first heard the news, and I'm really grateful to the Bunnies (official fan club name) around the world for their support and love. I will repay them with even better music in the future."
"I know it's not easy to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200," said Hani. From our debut album to this album, I'm glad that so many people's time and efforts have been recognized," and Hyein said, "It feels unreal, amazing, and I'm so grateful."
Daniel said, "I have mixed feelings of surprise, gratitude, and the need to do better," and HaeRin said, "I want to show you different sides of me with new music in the future."
